Setup
Red7 is played with a specialized deck containing cards numbered 1 through 7 in seven different colors, ranging from red up to violet. To set up the game, shuffle the entire deck and deal a starting hand of seven cards to each player. Place the remaining cards face-down as a draw pile. In the center of the table, place the red 'Red7' rule card face up. This establishes the initial game rule: the player with the single highest card visible in their personal play area (palette) is currently winning. Each player then places their lowest card face up in front of them to start their palette, and the remaining cards in hand are held secretly.

Crucially, at the end of your turn, you must be winning under the active rule; if you are not, you are immediately eliminated from the round.
Scoring
Red7 does not use traditional point scoring during individual rounds. Instead, when a round ends, the surviving player collects all the cards they played into their palette during that round, placing them into a personal score pile. At the end of the game, players sum up the numerical values of all the cards in their score piles, and the player with the highest total wins the overall match.
Game end
A round concludes as soon as all players except one have been eliminated for failing to meet the active winning condition. That final surviving player wins the round and claims their palette cards as points. The game continues for a predetermined number of rounds or until a target score is reached.
