Roll for the Galaxy

Roll for the Galaxy is a dice-based empire-building board game set in space. For setup, each player receives a player board, a matching cup, a set of starting faction and home world tiles, and initial dice from their supply. Additional dice, development and world tiles, and victory point chips are placed in central reserves. Players also receive a phase screen used for secret planning and rule reference.

The main objective is to build the most advanced and successful space empire. Players achieve this by discovering and settling new worlds, developing technologies, and producing and shipping goods. Victory points are accumulated throughout the game, and the player with the highest total at the end wins.

Each round consists of five potential phases: Explore, Develop, Settle, Produce, and Ship. Players begin by rolling all dice from their cup behind their secret screen. Each player then assigns one die to choose a phase they wish to activate, placing it on their screen. All players simultaneously reveal their chosen phases. Active phases are resolved in order (1 through 5). During each phase, players use their remaining dice matching the phase icon or wild symbols to execute actions such as acquiring tiles, building technologies, populating worlds, or generating and shipping goods. Unused dice return to the cup or cup pool for the next round.

Victory points are earned by placing and completing developments and worlds in your tableau. Additional points are scored during the Produce and Ship phases by converting goods into victory points or credits, and certain technologies and faction powers grant endgame bonuses based on your final empire composition.

The game triggers its end conditions when any player builds their 12th tile in their tableau or when the victory point chip pool runs completely out. The current round is finished so every player gets an equal number of turns, after which final scores are tallied.
