S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The Board Game

Setting up S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The Board Game involves unfolding the mission maps, distributing the character boards with their corresponding miniatures, and organizing the gear, weapon upgrades, artifact cards, event decks, and radiation counters within easy reach. Players select a scenario and apply any specific regional stickers or setup rules to begin their cooperative campaign.

As stalkers in the dangerous Exclusion Zone of Chernobyl, players must navigate through hostile environments, manage survival resources, uncover narrative secrets, and fulfill specific campaign or scenario goals. The primary focus is cooperation, exploration, and overcoming narrative threats while hunting for powerful artifacts.

A game round begins with revealing a new event card that dictates narrative developments and round rules. Each player then takes two actions per turn, such as moving carefully or quickly, trading items, scavenging, fighting enemies, or utilizing equipment. After player turns, enemies react, move toward noise, and attack, followed by radiation and end-of-round checks.

The game does not rely on traditional victory points; progress and success are defined by narrative milestones, completed mission objectives, and the survival of the stalkers from one scenario to the next in a campaign format.

The game ends immediately in failure if any stalker dies or suffers too many critical wounds during a mission. Conversely, players win when they successfully fulfill all the win conditions outlined on their current active scenario card.
