Sentinels of the Multiverse

To set up, first choose a supervillain, an environment, and between 3 to 5 superheroes. Each villain, environment, and hero has a unique deck of cards. Shuffle the villain's deck and place their character card in the play area. Then, find and play any specific setup cards for the villain as indicated on their character card. Shuffle the environment deck and place it nearby. For each hero, shuffle their individual deck, place their character card in front of them, and deal them a starting hand of 4 cards. Place any hero-specific setup cards as indicated. The game also uses an app to track health points for the villain and heroes, simplifying token management.

The primary objective of Sentinels of the Multiverse is cooperative: all players must work together to defeat the chosen supervillain. This is achieved by reducing the villain's health points to zero. Players must also prevent the villain from defeating all the heroes or fulfilling any specific win conditions outlined on the villain's character card or in their deck. Success requires strategic card play and coordinated efforts among the heroes.

A game turn proceeds through several phases: first, the villain's turn, where cards from their deck are played and their abilities activate. Next, each hero takes their turn, playing cards from their hand, using powers from their character card or played cards, and drawing new cards. Finally, the environment's turn occurs, where cards from the environment deck are played, introducing new challenges or opportunities. This cycle continues until a win or loss condition is met.

Sentinels of the Multiverse is a fully cooperative game, meaning there is no individual scoring. Players do not compete against each other for points or achievements. Instead, the entire group either collectively wins by defeating the villain or collectively loses if the villain achieves their objective or all heroes are incapacitated. The focus is entirely on teamwork and shared strategy.

The game concludes in one of three ways: the heroes win if the villain's health is reduced to zero. The heroes lose if all of them are incapacitated (their health drops to zero). Alternatively, the game can end if the villain successfully completes a specific win condition detailed on their character card or in their deck, which typically involves a catastrophic event or objective. Once any of these conditions are met, the game immediately ends.
