Space Empires 4X

To set up the game for a two-player scenario on a small map, players first place their home system markers and fully developed home planets (marked with number 20 face up). They receive starting components including colony ships, a miner, scouts, and shipyards. Most components and tokens are placed face down to maintain the fog of war. Players also receive a player reference card, a research chart, and a production sheet to track their economy and technology progression throughout the game.

The ultimate objective in Space Empires 4X is to locate and destroy your opponent's home world. While players explore, mine resources, and build up their fleets, success depends entirely on breaching enemy defenses and obliterating their starting home planet.

Each round of Space Empires 4X is divided into two primary phases: the Turn Phase and the Economic Phase. During the Turn Phase, players take three turns executing movement, combat, and exploration in sequence. Following the turns, the Economic Phase occurs, where players collect colony and mineral income, pay ship maintenance costs, bid for turn order, purchase new technologies and units, place newly built units, increase colony levels, and prepare for the next round.

Space Empires 4X does not feature a point-based scoring system. Winning or losing is determined by the strategic elimination of the opponent's home world rather than accumulating victory points.

The game ends instantly when an empire successfully destroys the enemy home world, declaring the surviving player the victor.
