Setup
Set up the game board with specialist cards, space project cards, and hand out individual player hubs and tokens.
The rules, step by step
Setup
To prepare Space Explorers, place the deck of cards in the center alongside at least six face-up specialist cards representing engineers, testers, researchers, builders, and astronauts. Lay out the space project cards representing historic missions. Each player receives a hub sheet, five research tokens, a reference card, and one starting card in hand, with the first player receiving the special token.
Objective
The main objective is to establish the preeminent space research and development hub by assembling a skilled team of experts and successfully completing iconic space exploration projects to earn the highest total progress points.
On your turn
During your turn, you may either take a specialist card directly into your hand or recruit a specialist to your hub. Recruiting requires paying the research symbols indicated on the card by spending tokens or using cards from your hand. Specialists are added to matching color divisions on your hub, and having more specialists in a division lowers the cost of future hires in that same category.
Scoring
At the conclusion of the game, players tally their progress points from the point values printed on all recruited specialist cards in their hubs, points from completed space projects, and any bonus points granted by specific specialist card abilities.
Game end
The game's conclusion is triggered as soon as any single player successfully recruits their 12th specialist into their hub, or alternatively, when all available space projects in the center of the table have been successfully completed by the players.
Tips
Pay close attention to card abilities, as only the top card in each batch of specialists remains active. Strategize carefully to combine abilities that give you free cards, extra research symbols, or end-game scoring multipliers.
