Sprawlopolis

To set up the game, first, shuffle all the city cards, ensuring the city block side is facing up. This forms the draw pile. Next, draw three cards from the top of the draw pile and place them face-up with their goal side showing, next to the draw pile. These are your goal cards for the game. Leave a space in the middle of the table for the city to be built. The first player receives three city cards, and all other players receive one city card each. Finally, take the top card from the draw pile and place it face-up in the center of the playing area to begin constructing your city.

The primary objective of Sprawlopolis is a cooperative one: all players must work together to achieve a collective score that meets or exceeds the target score. This target score is determined by summing the numbers located in the top-left corner of each of the three revealed goal cards. Players win if their final city score is equal to or greater than this combined target score.

During your turn, you must select one card from your hand to add to the growing city. When placing a card, at least one of its city blocks must either overlap or be orthogonally adjacent to a block on an already placed card. You are allowed to rotate the card before placing it, but you cannot flip it over to use the other side. Once a card is placed, its position cannot be changed. After placing your card, pass any remaining cards in your hand to the player on your left, and then draw a new card from the draw pile to replenish your hand.

Scoring in Sprawlopolis involves several components. First, for each of the four distinct colored zones (blue for commercial, green for parks, grey for industrial, and orange for residential), identify the largest contiguous area of that color. You score one point for each block within that largest area. Second, you will deduct one point for every individual road segment present anywhere in your city. Finally, you will calculate additional points, either positive or negative, based on how well your city meets the specific conditions outlined on the three goal cards revealed at the start of the game. All these points are summed to get your final city score.

The game concludes once all 15 city cards have been drawn from the draw pile and placed into the city. At this point, players proceed to calculate their total score based on the scoring rules. If the collective score meets or exceeds the target score derived from the goal cards, all players win the game.
