Setup
Each player needs a 50-card deck, a leader, and a base; shuffle your deck, draw 6 cards (1 mulligan allowed), and play 2 cards face down as resources.
The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up, each player must have a 50-card deck, a leader card, and a base card. The aspects shown on your chosen leader and base cards dictate which other cards can be included in your deck without incurring extra costs. Place your leader and base in the middle of the table. Shuffle your 50-card deck and draw an initial hand of 6 cards. You are allowed one mulligan if you don't like your starting hand, but you must keep the second hand drawn. From your hand, select two cards and play them face down as resources. These resources will be ready (upright) for your first action phase.
Objective
The primary objective of Star Wars: Unlimited is to defeat your opponent's base. Each base has a set amount of health, and once that health is reduced to zero through attacks, the player controlling that base loses the game.
On your turn
A turn consists of an action phase and a regroup phase. In the action phase, players alternate taking single actions. Actions include playing a card from hand (paying its resource cost), attacking with a ready unit, using an ability on a card, taking the initiative (which determines who goes first in the next round), or passing. Once a player takes the initiative or passes, they cannot take further actions in that phase unless their opponent also passes. The action phase ends when both players pass consecutively.
Scoring
Damage is scored by attacking an opponent's units or their base. When a unit attacks, it deals damage equal to its power to the chosen target (either an enemy unit or the enemy base). If attacking an enemy unit, that unit will also deal damage back to your attacking unit equal to its power. Damage tokens are placed on units and bases to track their current health. If a unit takes damage exceeding its health, it is defeated and moved to the discard pile. If a base takes damage exceeding its health, it is defeated, and the controlling player loses the game.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when one player's base is defeated. That player loses, and their opponent wins. There are no other victory conditions in the standard game.
Tips
When playing cards, units enter play exhausted (sideways) unless otherwise stated. Event cards are played for their effect and then go to the discard pile. Upgrade cards attach to units, granting them bonus power, health, and abilities; if the unit leaves play, its upgrades also go to the discard pile. Combat abilities like 'On Attack' and 'Raid' can enhance your attacks, while 'Sentinel' forces opponents to target that unit first, and 'Saboteur' allows units to bypass 'Sentinel' and shields. 'Restore' abilities can heal damage from your base. Leaders and some bases have powerful 'Epic Actions' that can be used once per game, often without a resource cost for leaders, but sometimes at a health cost for bases.
