Sumons is a tactical, faction-based skirmish board game played on a grid, where players summon units from a customized, self-built deck of cards and maneuver them on the battlefield using precise movement patterns, resource timing, and positional combat.

Before play, each player constructs a deck aligned to a chosen faction, selecting units and effects that create internal synergies and reinforce a specific playstyle. During the game, cards from this deck are used to summon units onto the board and activate abilities, making both deck composition and in-game tactics critical to success.

Each faction in Sumons is defined not only by theme and aesthetics, but by distinct mechanical identities that influence how they move, fight, and control space. Units are represented by cards and tokens, each with specific statistics for attack, health, range, and movement, as well as abilities that interact with a fixed, turn-based energy system.

Movement in Sumons is deliberate and expressive. Instead of generic “move X spaces,” units use defined movement profiles—such as omnidirectional steps, forward advances, diagonal shifts, or specialized patterns—placing a strong emphasis on positioning, board control, and spatial planning. Combat is deterministic and tactical, rewarding foresight and threat assessment over randomness.

Energy increases by a set amount each turn and does not carry over between rounds, requiring players to make efficient, turn-by-turn decisions about how to deploy their available resources. This structure emphasizes tempo, timing, and tactical sequencing rather than long-term resource hoarding.

Victory is achieved by outmaneuvering the opponent, leveraging deck synergies, and executing efficient tactical decisions over the course of the game. Sumons is designed to reward adaptability, mastery of spatial play, and thoughtful deck construction.
