Tales of the Arabian Nights

To set up Tales of the Arabian Nights for a solo game, select your character (such as Shahrazad) and gather all matching components: player tokens, origin and destination tokens, quest tokens, and the story and destiny markers. Set up the various card decks including encounters, treasures, quests, and status cards. Additionally, pick three starting skill tokens that best fit your character's abilities, such as storytelling, quick thinking, and courtly graces, keeping them on their simple side to begin your adventure.

The main objective of Tales of the Arabian Nights is not merely competitive strategy, but rather experiencing a rich storytelling journey. Your goal is to accumulate a set amount of story and destiny points by traveling across the map, engaging with various characters and creatures, completing quests, and navigating the bizarre and hilarious events that befall your character.

During your turn, you first move your character across land or sea, with your movement range determined by your current wealth level. Once you land at a destination, you draw an encounter card and reference the board to find the correct paragraph number in the Book of Tales. You then roll dice and use the reaction matrices to determine your encounter, apply your skills, and read the resulting story outcome.

Scoring in Tales of the Arabian Nights is tracked through story and destiny points earned by successfully resolving encounters, completing quests, and acquiring treasures. These points move your markers along the respective tracks, bringing you closer to your ultimate winning threshold.

The game concludes when a player reaches the predetermined target of combined story and destiny points, successfully travels back to Baghdad, and resolves their final encounter, officially declaring victory.
