Setup

Players receive hidden roles (Good or Evil) and vote cards; the game board tracks missions and votes.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up, each player is secretly dealt a character card, assigning them to either the Good or Evil faction. The game board is placed in the center, which tracks the progress of five missions and five team votes. Each player also receives two vote cards: one 'Approve' and one 'Reject'. The first leader is chosen, and the Lady of the Lake token is given to the player to the right of the first leader if playing with that expansion. The mission tokens are placed on the board according to the number of players.
Objective
The objective for the Good faction is to successfully complete three out of five missions. If they achieve this, they win, but the Assassin (Evil) gets one final chance to identify and eliminate Merlin. If the Assassin succeeds, Evil wins. The objective for the Evil faction is to cause three missions to fail. If three missions fail, Evil wins immediately. Additionally, if a team is rejected five times in a single round, Evil also wins immediately.
On your turn
Each round consists of two phases: Team Selection and Mission Execution. The current leader chooses a team of players to go on the mission, according to the number of players required for that specific mission. All players then secretly choose an 'Approve' or 'Reject' vote card and reveal them simultaneously. If the team is approved by a majority, the chosen team members then secretly play a 'Success' or 'Failure' card for the mission. If the team is rejected, the leader token passes to the next player, and the vote tracker advances.
Scoring
After the chosen team members play their mission cards, the cards are shuffled and revealed. A mission is successful if all cards played are 'Success' cards. However, for certain missions (indicated on the game board for 7+ players), two 'Failure' cards are required for the mission to fail. If a mission fails, a red token is placed on the board; if it succeeds, a blue token is placed. The mission cards are then returned to the players, and the leader token passes to the next player.
Game end
The game concludes when either three missions are successfully completed or three missions fail. If three missions succeed, the Good faction has a provisional win, but the Assassin (an Evil player) gets one final chance to identify and assassinate Merlin. If the Assassin correctly identifies Merlin, the Evil faction wins. If the Assassin fails, the Good faction wins. If three missions fail, the Evil faction wins immediately. Additionally, if five consecutive teams are rejected, the Evil faction wins immediately.
Tips
Consider using special characters like Percival, who knows Merlin's identity (but might confuse Morgana for Merlin), and Morgana, who appears as Merlin to Percival. Mordred is immune to Merlin's sight, and Oberon is unknown to other Evil players. The Lady of the Lake can investigate a player's allegiance, adding another layer of deduction. Strategic voting and careful observation of player behavior are crucial for both factions.
