The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up The Vale of Eternity, distribute two large player markers, a small scoring marker, and a player tile in your chosen color to each participant. Place the main board and scoreboard in the center of the table alongside the magic stones grouped by values of one, three, and six. Place the round marker on the first space of the round track. The first player places their scoring marker on space one of the score track, with other players following in clockwise order. Finally, shuffle all cards into a face-down deck.
Objective
The main objective of The Vale of Eternity is to accumulate the most victory points by the end of the game. Players act as tamers collecting magic stones to play and summon creature cards from five different families, utilizing their unique abilities to score points and outmaneuver opponents.
On your turn
The game is played over multiple rounds, each divided into three phases. First, the hunting phase reveals cards equal to twice the player count, and players take turns placing markers on them. Second, during the action phase, players take turns performing any number of actions: selling a card for stones, taming a card into their hand, summoning a card from their hand by paying stone costs, or removing a summoned card. Finally, the resolution phase requires players to trigger all active abilities on their summoned cards.
Scoring
Scoring happens throughout the game primarily via card abilities that grant victory points instantly, permanently, or during the resolution phase. Whenever you earn points, you advance your marker on the external score track. If you exceed sixty points, you flip your player tile to indicate a banked score and continue counting from the start.
Game end
Rounds continue sequentially until the end of a round where at least one player has reached or exceeded sixty points, or when the tenth round finishes. At that point, the game ends. The player with the highest total score wins, with tiebreakers decided by who has the most summoned cards.
Tips
Always keep an eye on your magic stone limit, as you can never hold more than four at a time, and remember that you never receive change when paying costs. Additionally, your summoned card area is strictly limited by the current round number, so plan your expansions carefully.
