Setup
To set up the game, first prepare the main game board by placing all the necessary components, such as the bridges, action cards, and resource tokens, in their designated areas. Each player then receives an individual player board, along with their starting resources and clan pieces, which are placed on their respective tracks and spaces on the personal board.
Objective
The main objective of The White Castle is to elevate the influence of your clan and accumulate the most influence points by the end of the game. This is achieved by strategically performing actions, managing resources, placing your clan members (warriors, gardeners, and courtiers) on various parts of the board, and completing objectives to gain points.
On your turn
During your turn, you must choose one of the available dice located at either end of the bridges. If you choose a die from the left side, you perform the lantern action on your personal board. You then place the chosen die on an available space on the main board or your personal board. If the number on the die differs from the number indicated on the space, you must pay or receive coins equal to the difference. Actions vary depending on where the die is placed: in the castle, outside the walls, in the well, or on your personal board.
Scoring
At the end of the game, all players sum their influence points. Points are gained from various sources throughout the game, including the positions of your clan members on the influence track, completed objectives, and other bonuses. The player with the highest total influence points, combining their influence and clan points, wins the game.
Game end
The game is played over three rounds. Each round concludes when only three dice remain on the bridges. After the third round is completed, the game ends, and players proceed to the final scoring phase to determine the winner.
Tips
When placing dice in the castle, you can perform actions associated with the color matching the die. You can stack dice in the castle, with a limit of two dice per space, but stacking is not allowed in two-player games. Outside the walls, there are two spaces for dice, each offering two action options. The well has no limit on the number of dice; placing a die there grants you coins and resources. On your personal board, you must play a die with the corresponding color to the space, receiving visible resources in that row and then performing the action on the card. Placing a warrior in a training patio requires paying iron and executing the patio's actions. Placing a gardener on a garden card requires paying food and executing that action; only one gardener of each color can be placed per card. When placing a courtier, you pay two coins to enter the castle, then you can pay two or five mother-of-pearls to move one or two floors up. The card where the courtier lands is taken, replacing one on your personal board, and the replaced card moves to the lantern area; you can then perform one of the light-background actions on the new card.
