Setup
The Wolves is played on a modular terrain board made of randomized hexagonal tiles representing different wilderness types. Each participant selects a wolf pack and takes the corresponding player board, wooden wolf tokens, den and lair pieces, and terrain payment tiles. Arrange the components within easy reach and place the moonlight scoring tracker near the board.

On your turn
Each player's turn consists of two actions. Actions are paid for by flipping terrain tiles on your player board that match the terrain type of the hex you are interacting with. Available actions include moving wolves across connected spaces, building dens and lairs, howling to recruit lone wolves or convert opponent pieces, and dominating rival packs.
Scoring
Scoring is triggered by the moonlight board across crescent, half, and full moon phases. During these phases, players evaluate area control in specific regions based on the presence of alpha wolves, pack wolves, dens, and lairs to award victory points.
Game end
The game concludes after the final full moon scoring phase. Final points are tallied based on area control markers and upgraded lairs, and the player with the highest total wins.
