Setup

Players choose a starting income tile, place tokens, and prepare four rounds of cooperative defense.

The rules, step by step

Setup
Players begin by selecting a personal income tile in reverse turn order, which determines starting resources and provides ongoing round income. Neutral worker tokens are added to accommodate player counts under four, ensuring the resource boats stay active and competitive.
Objective
Players work together across four distinct rounds to protect ancient China from nomad invasions. The primary goal is to extend the Great Wall, construct vital buildings, gain the favor of powerful families, and manage resources efficiently to maximize victory points.
On your turn
On your turn, you have three action tokens to place on provinces across the board. You can construct buildings, trade with ships using specific goods, exchange basic resources in inland regions, or work directly on defenses in the mountains. Placing workers also advances matching track markers, and you can spend money to repeat actions or utilize special abilities.
Scoring
Final scoring grants points for every five leftover resources, your final positions on the four major tracks, completed secret goal cards, and your collected sets of jade figurines. Majority contributions during nomad defense phases also award substantial points.
Game end
The game concludes automatically at the conclusion of the fourth round after all nomad attacks, building effects, and track advances are fully resolved, leading directly into the final point tally.
Tips
Do not hesitate to discard early objective cards for their immediate resource bonuses if it enables you to establish critical buildings and defenses before the nomad attacks break through.
