The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up the game, first place the game board in the center of the playing area. Each player chooses a color and takes all 16 buses of that color, placing one bus on the '0' space of the scoring track. Shuffle the bus cards and deal two to each player. Then, shuffle the destination tickets and deal two to each player, who must keep at least one. For the solo variant, choose two additional colors for the AI opponent. Draw one bus card for each of these AI colors; all routes of the drawn colors are immediately blocked by placing AI buses on them. Then, create three face-down piles of five bus cards each for the AI's future draws.
Objective
The objective of Ticket to Ride: London is to score the most points by completing destination tickets, claiming routes, and connecting all districts of a single color. Destination tickets require players to connect two specific districts on the board. Routes are claimed by playing matching sets of bus cards. Connecting all districts of a single color provides bonus points at the end of the game.
On your turn
On your turn, you must perform one of three actions. First, you can draw two bus cards from either the face-up display or the face-down deck. Second, you can claim a route by playing a set of bus cards matching the color and length of an unoccupied route on the board, then placing your buses on that route and moving your scoring marker. Third, you can draw two new destination tickets from the face-down deck and must keep at least one, discarding any unwanted tickets to the bottom of the deck. For the solo variant, after your action, the AI takes a turn by drawing a bus card from one of its three piles, then claiming a route if possible, or drawing a destination ticket if it cannot claim a route.
Scoring
Points are scored immediately when routes are claimed, based on the length of the route. At the end of the game, additional points are awarded for successfully completed destination tickets. Any uncompleted destination tickets result in negative points. Furthermore, players receive bonus points for connecting all districts of a single color on the board, with the player connecting the most districts of a specific color earning the highest bonus for that color.
Game end
The game ends immediately when a player has two or fewer buses remaining in their supply. Once this condition is met, all players, including the one who triggered the end, get one final turn. After everyone has taken their last turn, final scoring commences. Players tally points from claimed routes, add points for completed destination tickets, and subtract points for uncompleted destination tickets. Finally, bonus points are awarded for connecting all districts of a single color. The player with the highest total score wins the game.
Tips
To maximize your score, prioritize completing destination tickets, as these often provide a significant number of points. Pay close attention to the districts you are connecting and try to complete multiple tickets using shared routes. Also, be mindful of the district bonuses; aiming to connect all districts of a particular color can give you a substantial advantage. Don't forget to block your opponent's critical routes, especially in the solo variant, to hinder their progress and secure your own objectives.
