To Assure My Dynasty, 1808 in Iberia The entrance of the French Empire into a war on the Iberian Peninsula parallels numerous quagmires throughout history, initial success, which developed into a never ending burden. Having determined that the Spanish government did not hold the confidence of its people, and realizing, due to lack of both will and ability, it would never fulfill its responsibilities of allegiance to France, Napoleon determined plans must be made. Upon discovering agents of the Spanish throne discussed Spain’s potential role against France with her enemies, the Emperor decided such plans must be acted upon. The seemingly never ending pursuit actions across the Iberian landscape of Spain and Portugal provided a stream of empty victories to the French, until finally, the British Expeditionary Force is expelled from the continent at La Coruña.
