To set up the game for three players, first, choose three colors for the knights from blue, purple, green, and yellow. Place one knight of each chosen color on the '0' space of the score track. Then, give each player the remaining six knights of their chosen color. Each player receives 10 action cards of their chosen color, which should be kept face down in front of them. Place the '3-player' face card on the table for everyone to see, indicating the number of building segments each player will receive per phase. Distribute the building segments to each player according to the face card (for three players, each player receives 10 segments: two towers of three segments and two towers of two segments). Finally, place 8 building segments on the designated spaces on the game board. The youngest player starts by placing one of their knights on any of the 8 towers on the board, and then places the red king piece on any other tower.

The objective of Torres is to become the most powerful lord by strategically building and expanding towers, and positioning your knights to control these towers. Players earn victory points by having their knights on the highest towers and by controlling the most valuable towers at the end of each of the three scoring phases. The player who accumulates the most victory points by the end of the game wins.

During a player's turn, they must play exactly three action cards from their hand. These cards allow players to perform various actions such as moving their knights, adding new building segments to existing towers, or using special actions. Players must carefully consider their moves to maximize their scoring potential and hinder their opponents' strategies.

Scoring in Torres happens at the end of each of the three phases of the game. During a scoring round, players earn victory points based on the height of the towers their knights occupy. A knight on a higher tower yields more points. Additionally, players receive points for controlling towers, which is determined by having the most knights on or adjacent to a tower. The face card indicates the specific scoring rules for each phase.

The game concludes after the third phase has been completed and the final scoring round has taken place. After all victory points from the third phase are tallied, players compare their total scores. The player who has accumulated the highest number of victory points throughout the game is declared the winner and the most powerful lord in Torres.
