Setup

Players start with a headquarter, a rack for troops, and an inventory of troops. The first player gets 3 troops, the second gets 4.

The rules, step by step

Setup
Each player begins with a headquarter on the battlefield, a rack to hold their troops, and an inventory of troops. The first player starts with 3 troops on their rack, while the second player starts with 4 troops. The battlefield consists of various bases and regions, some of which contain medals.
Objective
The primary objective of Toy Battle is to either capture your opponent's headquarter by establishing a continuous path of your troops from your headquarter to theirs, or to be the first player to collect 7 medals by controlling specific regions on the battlefield.
On your turn
During your turn, you have two action choices: either draw 2 troops from your reserve inventory and add them to your rack (you can hold a maximum of 8 troops on your rack at any time), or place 1 troop from your rack onto an available base on the battlefield. When placing a troop, it must be on a base that is connected to your headquarter via a continuous path of your existing troops.
Scoring
Medals are awarded for controlling specific regions on the battlefield. Each region has a set number of medals. To control a region, you must occupy all the bases within that region with your troops. Once a region is controlled, you immediately gain the associated medals.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when one of two conditions is met: either a player successfully establishes a continuous path of their troops from their headquarter to their opponent's headquarter, thereby capturing it, or a player accumulates 7 or more medals. The player who achieves either of these conditions first is declared the winner.
Tips
Troops are numbered from 1 to 7, representing their strength, and each has a unique special ability that triggers upon placement. A higher strength troop can replace an opponent's lower strength troop on a base. The 'Quack' troop, despite having no strength, can be placed on top of any enemy troop, regardless of its strength, effectively removing the opponent's troop from that base. Strategically using troop abilities and controlling key regions for medals or creating paths to the enemy headquarter are crucial for victory.
