How do you play TRAPEZ?

The primary objective of the game is to be the first player to connect seven or more of your trapezoid pieces in a continuous, unbroken line. If all pieces are played and no player has achieved a continuous chain of seven or more, the player with the longest continuous chain of their pieces wins the game.

Setup

Place the cloth board on a flat surface, then place the dark red trapezoid in the center of the board.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the game, first lay the cloth game board on a flat, stable surface. Then, place the single dark red trapezoid piece in the designated center hexagonal space on the board. Each player chooses a color (light brown or dark red) and takes nine trapezoid pieces of their chosen color.
Objective
The primary objective of the game is to be the first player to connect seven or more of your trapezoid pieces in a continuous, unbroken line. If all pieces are played and no player has achieved a continuous chain of seven or more, the player with the longest continuous chain of their pieces wins the game.
On your turn
Players take turns placing one of their trapezoid pieces onto the game board. The placed piece must be adjacent to at least one existing piece on the board, and the colors of the touching sides must match. If placing a piece completely encloses another piece (meaning all six sides of a hexagonal space are filled), the player who placed the enclosing piece must rotate the enclosed piece 60 degrees in either a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. This rotation is mandatory.
Scoring
The game is won by the first player to successfully create a continuous chain of seven or more of their trapezoid pieces. If all 18 pieces (nine per player) are placed on the board and neither player has achieved a chain of seven or more, the game is decided by counting the longest continuous chain of pieces for each player. The player with the longest chain is declared the winner. In the event of a tie in chain length, the player who went first wins.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when one player successfully forms a continuous chain of seven or more of their trapezoid pieces, declaring them the winner. Alternatively, if all 18 trapezoid pieces have been placed on the board and no player has achieved the primary objective, the game ends, and the winner is determined by the longest continuous chain of pieces.
Tips
Strategic placement is key; try to extend your own chains while blocking your opponent's. Pay close attention to how placing a piece might enclose another, as the mandatory rotation can significantly alter the board state, potentially breaking your opponent's chains or extending your own. Consider multiple moves ahead to anticipate chain formations and avoid creating opportunities for your opponent.
