Twilight Imperium: Fourth Edition

Twilight Imperium 4th Edition begins with players selecting unique factions, each with distinct abilities, starting technologies, and units. The board is constructed in a modular hexagonal grid featuring planetary systems, anomalies, and wormholes. Players receive command sheets to track their tactical, fleet, and strategy tokens, as well as trade goods and commodities, establishing their starting economic and military foundation.

The ultimate goal is to amass 10 victory points before any of your opponents. Victory points are primarily gained by fulfilling public and secret objectives revealed throughout the game. Control of Mecatol Rex and strategic placement of your fleets are also vital to expanding your empire's reach and influence across the galaxy.

Each game round is broken into four distinct phases: the Strategy Phase, where players draft strategy cards determining turn order and special abilities; the Action Phase, where players take turns performing tactical actions (moving fleets, space combat, invasions, and production), strategic actions, or component actions; the Status Phase, for scoring and cleanup; and the Agenda Phase, where players vote on galactic laws if Mecatol Rex is controlled.

Scoring happens during the Status Phase or via specific action cards. Players may score one public objective and one secret objective per round, provided they meet all requirements during their turn. Public objectives are revealed progressively each round, starting with two Stage I objectives and scaling up to more difficult challenges.

The game concludes instantly when a player achieves the 10th victory point during the status phase or via specific immediate-scoring abilities. If multiple players reach the threshold simultaneously, tie-breakers like initiative order or victory point sources determine the ultimate victor.
