Undergrove

Set up the central forest using the starting mushroom tiles. Each player gets a player board to store resources, four activation tokens, and action references, along with seedlings, roots, trees, and a starting hand of three mushroom tiles. Place public goal cards and the carbon track nearby.

Players embody mature Douglas fir trees leveraging symbiotic relationships with fungi. By strategically placing seedlings and roots in the forest, you utilize surrounding mushrooms, absorb carbon, and grow trees to maximize end-game victory points.

Players take turns performing one of five actions: reproduce (spend resources to add a seedling and root), partner (add two roots), activate (use a mushroom ability by paying costs and exhausting tokens), absorb (gain carbon onto seedlings), or photosynthesize (gain carbon, refresh tokens, and draw tiles).

At game end, you score points for mushroom tiles connected to your roots, but only up to the amount of carbon tokens on that seedling. Seedlings upgraded to trees allow scoring of all attached roots. Public goals and leftover resources also grant points.

The game is triggered to end when a player reaches the final space of the carbon track. Finish the current round so everyone has equal turns, take one final turn per player, and then proceed to final scoring.
