Objective
Your goal is to create the most comfortable indoor space by arranging plants, rooms, and various objects in your home. Plants must be positioned to ensure optimal lighting conditions, allowing them to green and bloom. You will earn victory points by fulfilling the greening requirements of your plants, potting them, and strategically placing objects and rooms in your home.
On your turn
A turn in the game consists of seven steps. First, you select one card (either a plant or a room) and one token (either an object or a care token) from the market. You must choose items from the same column. Second, you place the selected card in your home, which is a 5x3 grid. Cards must be placed orthogonally adjacent to other cards, alternating between plant and room cards like a chessboard. Third, you check the lighting conditions for your plants and collect greenery tokens. Plants have 1 to 3 preferred lighting conditions (sun, partial shade, or shade), and each side of a room card has one lighting condition. If a plant's preferred lighting matches an adjacent room's lighting, you add greenery tokens to the plant. Fourth, you place or use object tokens. You can place an object token (furniture or pet) on any room card with an empty space, or you can spend a care token to perform care actions. Fifth, you complete plants and add pots. When a plant's greening requirement is met, you remove all greenery tokens from it and add a bonus pot token (or a terracotta pot if no bonus pots are left). Sixth, you place any unused object tokens in your deposit card (max 1) and check the limit of skilled gardener tokens (max 5). Any excess is lost. Seventh, you refill the market by adding a token and a card from their respective decks to each empty column.
Scoring
At the end of the game, players score points for several categories. For completed plants, each player scores the points indicated under the greening requirement on their completed plant cards. For remaining greenery on incomplete plants, each player receives points based on the total number of greenery tokens on their incomplete plants, divided by two and rounded down. For bonus pot tokens, each player adds the points shown on all bonus pot tokens they possess (concrete pots give 3 points, wooden pots 2 points, ceramic pots 1 point, terracotta pots 0 points). For room bonuses, each player scores one point for each plant adjacent to a room that matches the room's type. If a room card also has a matching object token (same color or pattern), players receive two points for each matching adjacent plant. For the collector bonus, each player receives three points if they have at least one of all five different plant types in their home. For the decorator bonus, each player receives three points if they have at least one of all five different room types in their home. The player with the most points is declared the winner. In case of a tie, the player with the most skilled gardener tokens wins. If there's still a tie, players share the victory.
Game end
Verdant ends when all players' homes have 15 cards (a 5x3 grid). This means players will play exactly 13 rounds. After the 13th round, players calculate their scores.
