The Söldnervariante was also made available as downloadable file by Lookout Games.
In this variant, the mercenary can be hired when playing conflict cards (Phase 3). The player hiring the mercenary immediately loses 3 victory points but in conflict resolution (Phase 5), the mercenary counts as 5 conflict points.
