Setup
Shuffle the deck and deal three cards to each player, then place the remaining deck in the center as the draw pile, with a discard pile next to it.
The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up the game, first shuffle the entire deck of cards. Each player is then dealt three cards to form their starting hand. The remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the playing area to create the draw pile. An empty space next to the draw pile is designated for the discard pile. If the draw pile runs out during the game, simply flip over the discard pile to form a new draw pile without shuffling.
Objective
The primary objective of Virus! is to be the first player to successfully assemble a complete healthy body, which consists of four different types of healthy organs. Players must strategically manage their organs, protect them from viruses, and use treatments to achieve this goal while hindering their opponents.
On your turn
Each turn, a player performs a single action: either playing one card from their hand or discarding any number of cards from their hand. After performing an action, the player draws cards from the draw pile until they have three cards in their hand again. This ensures players always have options for their next turn.
Scoring
Organs are considered healthy if they are not infected by any virus. An organ can be protected by a single medication card (vaccinated) or by two medication cards (immunized), making it immune to further virus attacks. Only healthy organs count towards the winning condition of four different healthy organs.
Game end
The game concludes immediately when any player successfully displays four different types of healthy organs in front of them. A healthy organ is defined as an organ that is not infected by a virus, is vaccinated (protected by one medication card), or is immunized (protected by two medication cards).
Tips
Virus cards are used to infect opponents' organs or remove their medication cards. Medication cards can be used to cure infected organs or vaccinate healthy ones. Treatment cards offer various strategic advantages, such as transplanting organs, stealing organs, transferring viruses, or forcing opponents to discard their hands. Multicolor cards act as wildcards and can be used as any type of organ, virus, or medication, but they are also susceptible to any corresponding card played against them.
