The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Wasteland Express Delivery Service, shuffle the terrain tiles into a four-by-four grid, placing the depot in the center and the four raider enclaves in the corners. Randomly place raider trucks on three corner tiles. Set up the market board by placing matching plastic pieces for food, water, and weapons, along with artifact counters. Randomize and place supply counters and demand tiles on their respective locations, adjusting the market wheel accordingly. Each player chooses a dashboard, takes a truck stand and progress tokens, receives initial scrap currency, and equips starting storage tokens and character bonuses. Place remaining cards like faction jobs, allies, and priority contracts nearby, and reveal the top event card to begin.
Objective
The main objective of the game is to be the cleverest and most efficient trucker in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Players race to collect and deliver goods, upgrade their trucks, battle raiders, and fulfill demanding contracts in order to be the very first person to successfully complete three unique priority first-class contracts, which immediately triggers a win.
On your turn
During a round, players take turns clockwise using their action markers. On your turn, you spend an action marker to perform one of several available actions: moving your truck across terrain, purchasing cargo from supplies, delivering goods to locations with matching demands, fighting raiders or enclaves, activating outposts to buy upgrades or hire allies, or taking a bonus action. Moving grants momentum, letting you travel further on consecutive moves, and allows you to slide your marker into a second action upon stopping.
Scoring
Scoring and economy revolve around earning scrap currency. Players gain scrap by successfully delivering cargo to demanded locations, defeating raiders, or completing faction jobs and private contracts. The fluctuating market wheel tracks current cargo values based on active demand tokens, rewarding players who adapt to changing wasteland needs.
Game end
The game continues over a series of rounds with players managing their five action markers and resolving event cards. Rounds repeat until a player successfully finishes their third unique priority contract on their turn, instantly ending the game and crowning them the winner.
Tips
Plan your delivery routes efficiently to maximize momentum and combine movement with a secondary action. Invest in truck upgrades like extra storage or a rad shield early to survive hazards and haul more valuable cargo.
