Setup

Shuffle 81 new European bird cards, bonus cards, and goal tiles into the base game components, using the green side of the goal mat.

The rules, step by step

Setup
To set up the European Expansion, shuffle the 81 new bird cards, five new bonus cards, and five double-sided goal tiles into your existing base game components. The expansion includes a new tray for organizing cards, additional food tokens, and new colored eggs which function identically to standard eggs. Players are recommended to use the green side of the goal mat, as some new goals are specifically designed for it. Place the new reference tile nearby, set aside solo cards if playing a multiplayer game, and distribute player mats and starting resources as usual.
Objective
The main objective remains identical to the base game: players strive to build the most successful wildlife preserve by attracting a diverse collection of birds to their habitats, gathering food, laying eggs, and fulfilling public and private goals to accumulate the highest total victory points.
On your turn
Turns follow the exact same core mechanics as the base game, but introduce new tactical twists via European bird powers. Some birds feature asterisks in their costs, allowing alternative payments such as tucking cards from your hand or replacing existing birds on your mat. Additionally, many new birds introduce teal-backed round-end powers that trigger after all player turns in a round are complete, meaning action cubes must remain on habitats until these abilities and round goals are fully resolved.
Scoring
Scoring uses both base game criteria and new expansion elements. Points are tallied from bird values, accumulated eggs, cached food, tucked cards, and round goals. Notably, certain new bird abilities allow cards to count double toward specific end-of-round goals, and the expansion includes a colorful updated score pad designed to streamline multiplayer and solo final scoring.
Game end
The game naturally concludes after the completion of the fourth round. Players then tally all victory points from their boards, bonus cards, and achieved round goals using the new score pad to determine the winner.
Tips
Carefully manage your action cubes at the end of rounds; do not clear them from your habitats until all round-end bird powers and goal scoring have been completely resolved. Keep an eye out for birds with special alternative costs, as tucking cards instead of paying food can simultaneously save resources and build valuable victory point combos.
