The rules, step by step
Setup
To set up Wizard's Brew, place the game board in the center and arrange element tokens on all non-city hexes. Draw ingredient tokens from a bag and randomly place them on the hexes, with three in city hexes and two elsewhere. Each player receives ten energy cubes and starts with two spell cards. The starting player is chosen randomly, given the wizard hat, and a horse marker is placed on a city hex.
Objective
The main objective of Wizard's Brew is to be the first player to collect the required amount of ingredient tokens on your cauldron. Depending on the player count, you can win by gathering a specific total number of tokens or a diverse set of different colors.
On your turn
A round consists of four main phases: the Spell Phase where players bid energy cubes on revealed spell cards, the Element Phase where players collect element cards matching their spell cards, the Ingredient Phase where players roll a die to move the horse and bid element cards to win ingredient tokens, and the Energy Phase where spells consume energy cubes and expire if unpowered.
Scoring
Scoring and victory in Wizard's Brew are determined by your cauldron's contents. You track your progress by placing collected ingredient tokens into your cauldron. Once you reach the target threshold of total tokens or unique colors based on the player count, you win the game.
Game end
The game ends as soon as any player's cauldron contains the required number or variety of ingredient tokens as specified in the rules for the current player count.
Tips
Strategic planning is crucial because your supply of ten energy cubes is fixed and tied to your active spells. Pay close attention to horse movement and opponents' hands to win critical bidding wars, and avoid overextending your resources too early.
