In 1943 the Allied push across the Pacific reached a critical phase. Every step toward Rabaul demanded nerve, planning and a constant fight with the limits of supply. 1943: Race to Rabaul puts you right in the middle of that pressure.
1943: Race to Rabaul is a wargame that pits the Allies against the Japanese in World War II’s historical campaign for the South Pacific. Two players can use just half the board battle to battle each other for the Solomons or New Guinea alone. Or 2, 3, or 4 players can take the roles of 4 historical commanders fighting across the full game board.
As General MacArthur or Admiral Halsey, you must race up the New Guinea coast or along the Solomon Islands chain to break the “Bismarcks Barrier” and be the first to capture, ring, or extend Allied air power over the great Japanese supply base of Rabaul. As General Imamura or Admiral Kusaka, you must stop the Allied onslaught or kill enough enemy troops to wear the Allies down.
This time the series introduces opposed play. You can play as a team or head-to-head, with one or two players commanding the Japanese side and one or two leading the Americans. Both fronts chase momentum, both struggle with logistics and both try to outthink the other before their plans run dry. The map is wide, resources are tight and every choice has weight.
