Age of Trains

Age of Trains is a retrofuturistic train game in which you aim to pick up and deliver cargo to and from various locations on the map. The game can be played by 2-5 people (depending on the map used). Finishing it requires playing through a certain number of rounds (also determined by the map used), during which we gain Victory Points. The player with the most Victory Points at the end is the winner.

The game’s mechanics revolve around the ‘pick up and deliver’ core - you plan your movement across the hexagonal map board, determine the cargo you want to pick up (originating from both private and public sector), and deliver it to the chosen city or port. The more you deliver, the more you can pick up for future transports. By buying the ‘port stock tiles’ you increase your chance of gaining more Victory Points.

Apart from the map boards (each depicting the real country with the original names on it, but adapted to the game’s mechanics), the game also features:

• the game board (used for determining the players’ actions, monitoring the opponent’s development, and upgrading our train),
• the player’s board (used for monitoring player's progress and the improvements made to the train). The train’s upgrades are divided into 4 categories (engine, hopper wagon, additional wagons, and hiring a specialist), with each upgrade creating new opportunities for the player. Pair it up with the special cards, allowing you to break some of the rules, and you can be sure that each playthrough will differ and require the players to change their tactics and stay vigilant for the opponents’ moves.
