To set up MicroMacro: Crime City, first unfold the enormous map of Crime City and place it in the middle of a large, brightly lit table. Good lighting is crucial for spotting small details. Next, decide who will be the lead investigator; this player will be responsible for reading the case cards. The game comes with various case envelopes, each with a star rating indicating difficulty. For your first game, it's recommended to start with 'The Top Hat' introductory case.

Once found, the lead investigator reads the back of the corresponding black card to get the next piece of information or task.
