In Roll Through the Ages, jucatorii arunca zaruri pentru a obtine resurse si meeple cu scopul de a-si dezvolta civilizatiile. Zarurile pot fi rerulate de doua ori, cu exceptia cazului in care apare un simbol de pericol. Participantii folosesc acesti meeple pentru a construi infrastructura necesara sau monumente care ofera puncte de victorie. Totodata, se colecteaza marfuri care permit progresul civilizatiei. Cand toate monumentele sau cinci dezvoltari sunt finalizate de un jucator, partida se incheie la finalul rundei, se numara punctele si se desemneaza castigatorul. Acest board game imprumuta numele de la Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization, desi cele doua titluri au stiluri si designeri diferiti.
