The Planet Pits

Rules Introduction: "Some astronauts have been sent to explore The Planet Pits, in search of a rare, valuable substance called Pitium. They might meet the friendly Weenie Beanies and Carrotons, or the hostile Gravel arm, the Purple Ops, Mechanico, or the vicious, giant K-9s."

Simple game mechanics: movement options are determined by either adding or subtracting the numbers rolled on two dice, and matching the result to a number printed in the spaces on the board. Landing on certain spaces on the board triggers drawing a card, which could be good (move forward X spaces, rescue cards which cancel penalties drawn later) or bad (go back X spaces, loose a turn). A math cheat-sheet is included for children who haven't yet mastered addition and subtraction, and the directions on the cards are printed in all caps to distinguish from the flavor text.
