Tut-Tut or A Run in a Motor Car

This is a British set collection card game. It has a deck of 48 cards, divided into sets of four cards, each naming a British city.

There also is a spinner built into the bottom of the box. Eight segments of the spinner indicate points gained between 0 and 60. The other four segments have losses of between 2 and 20. Printed on the bottom are a matching 12 segments, one per city in the deck.

To play, the deck is reduced to one set per player. The cards are then shuffled and dealt out evenly. Before play begins, the dealer without looking spins a dial fixed into the box and closes the lid.

Play then proceeds as in Pit. Players call out any number of cards they wish to exchange. They may not name or hint at cities they have or want. As soon as one player collects a set of four, he announces "Tut-Tut". The box is then opened to reveal how many points plus or minus that city is worth to the winner of this round.

Play continues until one player reaches a point total that varies by number of players, from 300 for four players to 100 for 11 to 12 players.

Each card bears the same photograph of four people in a car that resembles a 1905 Packard N. That and the mechanism suggests that it was published soon after Pit became a hit in the United States in 1903-04.
