This is a big game but is a very playable monster game and a terrific multi player game. It was the first game to use the concept of variable unit strength. Units are rated for size and morale but actual strengths (fog of war) are determined by drawing a chit randomly at the point where your unit first enters combat. Most Soviet units are winterized (white on red) but none German units are. In Snow, non-winterized units have movement and combat halved.

2.7 miles/hex (4.0 km/hex). 1 day/turn.
Units are regiments (for the Germans) and divisions (for the Russians). 4 scenarios: three scenarios on each map (SPI)/map zone (Decision Games) - north/center/south, one campaign on all scenarios. All are 16 turns long (15 November to 30 November).
