大洋落日 (Sunset over the Pacific)

大洋落日 (Sunset over Pacific) is an operational, hex-based wargame depicting carrier battles in the Pacific during the dramatic year of 1942, designed by Chinese designer Salm. In this game, players take the role of fleet commanders, attempting to achieve their objectives and defeating the opponent's forces, while under the condition of limited intelligence from the game’s double-blind mechanics. As an operational game, the key challenges for the players would be to determine how to position their forces before contact with the enemy fleet, and managing the fuel level of their fleet at the same time.

The distinct difference of Sunset over Pacific from other double-blind naval games is that it does not require a referee, yet still allows a full fog of war experience by using the magnetic panels to pass around scouting plans, and the rest of the information is hidden from the other player behind the game screen. Allowing an immersive and engaging experience of Pacific carrier duels between 2 players.

The game includes scenarios for all four major carrier action in the Pacific during 1942: Coral Sea, Midway, Eastern Solomon, and Santa Cruz. For each battle, 3 different scenarios are included:

 The short scenario, where both fleets are already in place, the battle is imminent, allowing the players to jump right into action.
 The long scenario, where both fleets are starting their deployment into the theater, allows the players to experience the historical environment of decision making.
 The historical random scenario, which included a level of uncertainty to the deployments of forces within historical likelihood, to reduce the impact of hindsight from the players and provides more possibilities for the situation.

This adds up to 12 scenarios for the game, and there is also an extra learning scenario for the players to get familiar with the game’s rules and mechanics.
