WWII China Battlefield: A Magnificent War for the Nation

气壮山河（WWII China Battlefield: A Magnificent War for the Nation） is a quad game on the War of Resistance (2nd Sino-Japanese War). It consists of four separate games, each having individual rules and scale to better represent these key battle during the war:

3rd battle of Changsha (1941-42): December 1942, Japanese 11th Army starts its feint offensive against the Chinese 9th Front, to prevent the Chinese forces from reinforcing Hong Kong. However, the operation was launched only after the fall of Hong Kong, and the 11th Army commander Korechika Anami changed the objective into taking the city of Changsha, this will be the third attempt to take this capital of Hunan Province. In the end, the Japanese army’s supply line was severed and are forced to retreat, while the Chinese forces followed in close pursuit and inflicted heavy losses, similar to how the prior 2 battles of Changsha has unfolded.

Defense of the Great Wall (1933): January 1933, the Japanese Kwantung Army staged an “incident” and use it as the excuse to demand the Chinese forces to evacuate the Shanhaiguan defences. When it was refused, Japanese forces launches an attack with air and naval support and took the position after 2 days of fighting. February, the conflict escalates as the Japanese army launches a full invasion into the province of Rehe. In the subsequent fierce battle, Chinese forces was eventually overwhelmed after suffering heavy losses and forced back from the great wall. On May 22, 1933, the Tanggu Truce was signed, essentially ceded the province of Rehe to puppet Manchukuo.

Battle of West Hubei (1943): In May 1943, the Japanese 11th Army launches its “South of the Yangtze River elimination operation (江南殲滅作戦)”, aiming to evacuate the river shippings stranded in YiChang, and conduct a decisive blow to eliminate the Chinese forces in the region and cripples the 6th Front. In the subsequent battle, the Japanese forces progressed smoothly initially, but is stalled at the Shipai Fortress. Eventually, 11th Army retreats after successfully evacuated the shippings, abandoning other objectives.

Hundred Regiments Offensive (1940): August 1940, Chinese 18th Group Army (also known as the 8th route army, led by the CCP) initiated its major raiding campaign targeting the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan railway under the control of Japanese forces. In the end, there are 105 regimental formations participated in this campaign, and significant damage was done to the crucial transportation infrastructure, heavily undermining the Japanese forces ability to press on its offensive operations southward.

The game also includes a bonus game: the battle of BaiLingMiao: in 1936, the proxy Mongolian army under the support of Japanese army conducted its attempted invasion of Suiyuan, the campaign ended as Chinese forces launches a counterattack and eventually captured the Mongolian headquarter at BaiLingMiao, ending the invasion.
