Welcome to The Cats of New Orleans. The year is 1868, and the city has acquired a modicum of peace in the aftermath of the Civil War. Cats — and even dogs — lick their wounds and look toward building a better life. However, the discontent of the city’s vermin bubbles like a cauldron full of crawfish that’s about to boil over. The Cats of New Orleans. is a miniatures solo/cooperative campaign game set in a turbulent time in the Crescent City. The game plays out over a series of linked scenarios that form a campaign and ongoing story. Each scenario in the campaign affects the next. In fact, many end with choices the players must make that lead them to the next. You will be playing directly on the coil bound scenario book and using 12 sided dice for combat and collecting cards for loot, skills and powers.

As you play each scenario, the heroes learn who’s behind the recent troubles in New Orleans and come closer to putting a permanent stop to their awful ambitions. Along the way, they must defeat swarms of mosquitos, rats, snakes, and other foul creatures. The heroes also gain loot and experience to unlock skills they can use to face stronger and tougher foes.

The Cats of New Orleans takes several sittings to play all the way through, but you can save your progress easily, especially between scenarios. This rulebook helps you learn to play the game by guiding you through the first three scenarios. Just play the game as you read through the text.

The first three scenarios are meant to be played until thoroughly understood. If you fail to finish a scenario or feel like you need a bit more time to master the rules they introduce, play them again.

Once you proceed past these first few scenarios, the game often offers you choices as to which scenario you can play next. The path you choose can change events in the campaign, so pick carefully. Once you’re done with one play through the campaign, though, be sure to come back and try different options to see how they pan out for you.

In the first scenario we teach you how to set up a scenario, move your heroes on the map, search for essential loot, and pick up items. In addition, you learn how to move the Vermin Army’s figures, starting with the vicious mosquitos.
