An Impossible War recreează Primul Război Carlist din nordul Spaniei (1834-1838). Este un wargame cu blocuri care include, de asemenea, jetoane și cărți. Există o hartă principală (sau harta de Nord), care prezintă Navarra, Provinciile Basce și o parte din Cantabria, Burgos și La Rioja, alături de o hartă secundară ce reflectă regiunile din restul țării, unde izbucnesc revolte carliste și pot opera expedițiile trimise din Nord. Jocul de societate oferă un scenariu care acoperă Războiul Complet (1834-1838) și alte două mai scurte: Războiul lui Zumalacarregui (1834-1836) și Războiul lui Espartero (1836-1838).
